The National Portrait Gallery

When it comes to galleries, you probably wouldn't think of a gallery of portraiture as being of particular interest, but it is, on two counts:

Firstly, portraiture comes in a diverse variety of forms, from photos through to abstract paintings and sculptures.

But secondly, and more interestingly, you get a cross section of society, so this gallery in Canberra is a true who's-who of Australian society, great for non-aussies like me who recognise the faces but know not of the reasons for their fame.
